Diprolene ointment help relieve redness, itching, swelling, or other discomforts caused by certain skin conditions. This medicine is a corticosteroid available only with your doctor's prescription.

Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Use the Diprolene Ointment exactly as directed.

• Topical medicine is for use only on the skin. Do not use on open wounds or sunburned, windburned, dry, or irritated skin. Rinse with water if this medicine gets in your eyes or mouth.
• Wash your hands before and after using this medicine unless you are using the medicine to treat the skin on your hands.
• Apply a small amount to the affected area and rub it gently into the skin. Do not apply Diprolene over a large area of skin.
• Do not cover the treated skin area unless your doctor tells you to. Covering treated areas can increase the amount of medicine absorbed through your skin and may cause harmful effects.
• Call your doctor if your skin condition does not improve after two weeks or if it gets worse.

Before using Diprolene Ointment, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you are allergic to it, other medications, or any ingredients.
• You are taking prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and nutritional supplements or plan to take them. 
• Be sure to mention the following: other corticosteroid medications and other topical medications.
• If you have an infection or have had diabetes, liver disease, or Cushing's syndrome,
• If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while using betamethasone topical, call your doctor immediately.
• If you have dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Diprolene.

Along with its needed effects, Diprolene Ointment may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur, they may need medical attention. Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

• Burning or stinging
• itching at the application site

Less common

• Blistering, burning, crusting, dryness, or flaking of the skin
• Cracking or tightening of the skin
• Dry skin
• Flushing or redness of the skin
• Irritation
• Itching, scaling, severe redness, soreness, or swelling of the skin
• Thinning of the skin with easy bruising, especially when used on the face or where the skin folds together
• Unusually warm skin

How long should you use Diprolene Ointment?

You can use Diprolene Ointment for up to 2 weeks unless your provider tells you otherwise.

Can Diprolene Ointment be used anywhere on the body?

Unless your provider directs, avoid using Diprolene Ointment on the face, groin, armpit, or areas where the skin has been thinned out. 

What are the possible side effects of Diprolene Ointment?

Itching, redness, burning, stinging, or blistering of treated skin, and skin bruising may occur.
