A vectical ointment is a form of vitamin D. It works by decreasing the rate of skin cell reproduction. It is used to treat plaque psoriasis (raised, silvery flaking of the skin) in adults and children at least two years old.

Vectical Ointment is not used to treat severe psoriasis (with pus, skin peeling, and severe redness).

Use Vectical Ointment exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets.

• Topical medicine is for use only on the skin. Do not use Vectical on your lips or face or around your eyes.
• Please wash your hands before and after applying this medicine unless you are using it to treat psoriasis on your hands.
• Apply a thin layer of the ointment and rub it in completely.
• Do not cover treated skin areas with bandaging or plastic.
• Vectical is for use only in areas of psoriasis. Avoid getting it on healthy skin areas.
• Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze or refrigerate.

Before taking Vectical ointment to make sure Vectical is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

• Low or high levels of calcium in your blood;
• A calcium disorder or metabolic imbalance; or
• If you are receiving UV light treatments (phototherapy) for your psoriasis,
• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding,
• Vectical should not be given to a child younger than two years old.

Vectical Ointment topical may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if either of these symptoms is severe or does not go away:

• skin pain or discomfort
• itching
• high levels of calcium in your blood or urine

It may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while using this medication.

What other drugs will affect Vectical Ointment?

Tell your doctor about all your other medicines, especially:

• Other medicines to treat psoriasis;
• Vitamin or mineral supplements that contain calcium or vitamin D; or
• A diuretic or "water pill."
